Pros and Cons of Living in Jacksonville North Carolina

Are you thinking about moving to Jacksonville, North Carolina, and want somebody to give you the bottom line of what it's really like? Wondering If Jacksonville NC a Good Place to Live?

In this episode of Covering Coastal Carolina, I'm going to give you the good, the bad, and the ugly of living in Jacksonville. We’ll look at the pros and cons and discover the top three reasons that people love living here.

Top 3 Reasons People Love Jacksonville

The first--and my favorite--reason to live here in Jacksonville is the beach. We have three major beaches surrounded by smaller ones. In other words, we're surrounded by beautiful beaches. The best part about it is that you can reside at the beach without paying beachfront prices.

The second reason that people love living here is the weather. We get to enjoy eight months of warm weather throughout the year. How awesome is that? It feels like summer almost all year round. That means that there's plenty of time to enjoy your favorite outdoor activities without freezing.

The third thing that people love about Jacksonville is the shopping and the restaurants. Although Jacksonville, North Carolina is considered to be small-town living, we still have our fair share of popular stores and local restaurants. So if your favorite pastime is strolling around the aisles of Home Goods or Target with a Starbucks in your hand, or visiting a fantastic consignment shop don't worry: we’ve got you covered.

Cons Of Living In Jacksonville

Now that you know some of the pros of living here in Jacksonville, let me give you the lowdown on some of the cons. Not everything is perfect, and if you're serious about moving here, there are some things you need to know.

Did you know that Jacksonville has a ton of geese? Yes, that is correct. Picture this: you're driving down Western Boulevard and bam--you're stuck waiting for a family of geese to walk across the road. Traffic is stopped all over Jacksonville for these geese. It's not something awful, but you probably need to account for it in your commute time.

If you can deal with the geese in the middle of the road, then maybe you won't mind the constant artillery sounds coming from the training on base. Depending on how close you are to base, you might get the occasional surprise of a bombing followed by vibrating light fixtures. But don't worry, you'll get used to it. We call that the sound of freedom.

One more thing that you need to be prepared for is hurricane season. We do live at the beach, so hurricanes do affect the area. This may play a factor in where you choose to live because some houses require extra insurance. Life at the beach is wonderful, but hurricane season is just one of the cons that comes with it.
